Bian & Carolyn
"My wife and I engaged Michelle to be our wedding photographer in Buduk Nur, Ba'kelalan last December. Now after all the wedding dust has settled I finally feel in the right state of mind to write a review for Michelle. Firstly, Michelle isn't about strategically-placed LED lighting c/w weird poses and awkward angles. She isn't even a ruthlessly efficient photographer that will bark orders so fast that you wonder why did I pay for this. Michelle is, however an intelligent and observant photographer, someone willing to veer off their tried-and-true methods to accommodate your requests or at least explain why it wouldn't work. She's adventurous, spontaneous and down-to-earth, and her complete immersion into Lun Bawang culture both good and ugly did not in any way affect her ability to take good photos. In fact she made such an impression on all of us including my dear grandfather by being an excellent listener and conversationalist. If you agree that photos are meant to capture moments and moments are to be shared, then look no further than Michelle as I have first-hand seen family members proudly posting our wedding photos of their (read: not me and my wife) moments on Facebook. Our wedding was very much a family occasion as is the norm for Lun Bawang weddings and we are glad Michelle was able to immortalize each wonderful moment in her fullest capacity."
[People & Portraits]
"Being in front of a camera makes most people very self-conscious, and I'm no exception. But Michelle is incredibly empathetic — she knows how to make her subjects feel at ease even through the awkward moments. She loves to sit with her portrait subjects beforehand to get to know them. In my case, this meant that she was able to make sure her photos of me were not too overly posed, and as a result, I love how it all turned out! Her use of natural lighting also meant that there weren't any glaring studio lights in my face, always a good thing."
